It Is Better For You
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts [taken complete possession of them]. However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].
John 16:6-7 The Amplified Bible
I have been thinking about life and this verse all week. I am so glad that Jesus did not give in to the disciples' sorrow and stay with them! The disciples were so focused on their own desires and sadness that they could not see the good that was to come out of it. Jesus knew what the plan was and He was not going to stop at giving less than God's very best.
Life can be tough. A situation may arise that drops you to your knees and knocks the breath right out of you. The weight of suffering can be so overwhelming that it is all you can do to get up in the morning. In times of tremendous grief it can be impossible to see how God could bring good out it but Jesus reminds us here that God always has a plan. In Romans 16:25 in the Message Bible it says He "is the One Who is strong enough to make you strong." Nothing else can get you through these times like the loving reassurance and grace you get from God.
I've met a lot of people who have turned their backs on God because they did not get what they wanted in a particular situation. I don't always get what I want, either, and things do not always go the way I want them to but I know, that I know, that I know, that God is always faithful and true. He will NOT ever do anything against His Word nor will He give me second best.
Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to be our constant companion, friend, confidant, and even our strength. When we are at our weakest, God is at His strongest in us. Remember the poem about footprints in the sand? When you cannot take another step, when the burdens you are carrying stop you from moving forward, Jesus will be your strength. He will carry you and care for you.
I just want you all to know that I pray for you and every person that reads this blog, even if I don't know you. My hearts greatest desire is that you will share every part of your life with God. None of it is a surprise to Him. We are the only ones who get caught unaware. God knows what is ahead of us and He is preparing us now for what's to come.
