Open Lives Pt 3

Living our lives open to God means guarding our hearts.  Prov. 4:23 warns us to keep our hearts protected because our life flows from it.  In other words, what we put in our heart will be reflected in our lives.

The Word of God is alive and active (Heb. 4:12) and that means it has power to change your life but only if you recognize its truth and eternal wealth and let nothing take its place in your heart.  Living open to God allows His Word to reign in your life and that will cause you to prosper and grow in ways you can't even imagine.

I grew up with the belief that I was not valuable because I was a girl.  I was also under the impression that I could not do anything significant because I was not talented or athletic.  But God (I love saying that!) spoke words of love over me.  In the Bible I found so many declarations of His love for me and expressions of my value and significance in His eyes.  I was overwhelmed!  I removed the lies that I grew up with from my heart and replaced them with God's Word.  In this process (and it was a process that took time and effort on my part) I discovered a freedom that is limitless.  I have a peace and a confidence that man cannot change or remove.

God's Word is also a filter that you can use to protect your heart.  Check everything against what the Bible says.  Take nothing as truth until you have looked it up yourself in God's Word.  If what you hear or see does not line up with what God has said, reject it.

Not believing God's Word keeps our hearts closed to Him and limits our lives to the boundaries of this world.  Believing God's Word empowers us to live our dreams and impact our world.

In Rev. 3:10-11 Jesus promises safety and a crown to those who hold fast and guard His Word.  To live open to God and to receive this promise, keep only His Word in your heart.
