Prayer

For the second time in less than 24 hours I have received a phone call from a friend who is coping with someone attempting to or committing suicide.  My heart is grieving.  With both calls I fell to my knees and cried out to God.  Suicide is brutal on so many levels for it leaves behind numerous unanswered questions and "what ifs."  Too often, people turn away from prayer in times like these because they see it as insignificant.

Hold the phone!  Prayer is the most effective, mighty, and noble posture we can take in any situation.  In prayer we speak to the Lord God Almighty.  Through prayer we unleash the very power of God on the situation or person we are praying for.  Because of prayer people are saved, restored, redeemed and miraculously healed everyday.  Because of prayer the Holy Spirit moves within us and uses us to speak words of love and comfort and encouragement to the people God so dearly loves.

There is nothing weak or grovelling about prayer.  Prayer is passionate, unstoppable, and forceful.  Prayer is not based on our abilities or vocabulary but it is all about our trust in the One and Only True God.

In prayer as we lay open our hearts before God, we are seen in heaven as great and mighty warriors for His kingdom.  Angels are dispatched to fulfill God's plans and purposes on earth in response to our prayers.  The Bible even says that our prayers are a beautiful incense before the throne of God (Rev. 5:8).

In every season and for every reason, pray.
