Grateful
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all the blessings God has so abundantly poured out in my life. I cannot contain the joy within me that comes from knowing the pure and perfect love of God through Jesus. Yesterday, God again showed up in what seems like a small way but to my heart it was a huge way.
First let me say that Christmas is my favorite season. Even before I gave my life to Christ, I loved Christmas. It's even more exciting for me now that I have a better understanding of what the real meaning of Christmas is: the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
When I was a child, my mom would play Christmas music from Thanksgiving through Christmas Day. Now I grew up in the days of records. We had albums and 45s (which were single songs for you youngsters out there). My favorite record that she played was sung by a children's choir. I loved listening to that record. She would play it loud enough that I could safely sing along without doing harm to others (I'm not a very good singer).
After my mom died and the stuff we had growing up got misplaced, I would occasionally look in stores at Christmas time hoping to find this album on CD. I did not know the name of the record but I thought I would recognize the cover art.
Well, yesterday I was on iTunes looking for a CD of a tape my girls and I would listen to during the Christmas season but instead of finding that, I found this record from my childhood. The cover had been changed but it was the same one that my mom had. I was thrilled! With the words, "Thank you, God" on my lips, I bought it and then immediately listened to it. My heart was close to bursting with happiness (no, I didn't sing along)!
Isn't it great to know that no matter how big or small the desires in your heart are, God cares about them. How wonderful it is to know that God is personally interested in us!
Take some time this month to look at your own life and remember all the amazing "little" gifts that God has given you.
