Like many of you, I have been concerned about the loss and destruction in Japan as a result of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. I cannot imagine how horrible it must be to find yourself surrounded by nothing but chaos and ruin with life as you know it at a complete standstill.
My heart is heavy for the people stranded and injured and those missing loved ones. The pictures of devastation seen in the news indicate that the clean up and rebuild will take a very long time and the death toll will be high.
This is not the time for political or religious disagreements. Now is the time for us to live like Christ and to reach out unconditionally with hearts full of compassion.
It's a sin to belittle one's neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.
Prov 14:21 NLT
With this verse in mind, I will continue to pray for the nation and people of Japan.
I pray for the safety and protection of the survivors and the rescue workers.
I pray for people to turn to the One and Only true God.
I pray for the Christians who are or will be there to help them recover from this catastrophe.
I pray for the Japanese people to have comfort and strength as they clean up and rebuild.
I pray for the healing of individuals, families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
Now is not the time to sit back, fold your arms across your chest and judge others.
Follow Christ's lead and cover people with prayers of love and have compassion for their suffering and loss.
Respond to what you see by doing what you can to help.
