Abide

Well I have successfully made my move back home.  Thanks be to God!  Now comes the tough part of re-learning to live with my family.  In the past I have struggled tremendously with this transition but I have a feeling this time is going to be different.

I want to share this journey with you by repeating what God is saying to me.  Hopefully, you will find something you can use to improve an area of your own life.

I have been talking to God for the last two weeks about my return home.  On the day of my departure, I was again talking to God about transitioning back to civilian life.  He only said one word to me......

A B I D E

I thought about that word and what it means.  I looked it up in the dictionary and made a list of the definitions:

  Remain
  Continue
  Stay
  Dwell
  Put up with
  Tolerate
  Endure
  Sustain
  Accept
  Suffer for

To continue in a particular condition or attitude

I spent some time looking at this list and opened up my Bible to John Chapter 15.  I read the whole chapter and decided to meditate on what it means to "Abide" during the 9 hour drive home.

Unfortunately, I did not get very far with my plan.  I got frustrated with other drivers and then in an effort to stay calm, I spent most of the trip singing praises to God.

Now it's your turn.

Read John 15 and jot down some notes in your journal about what you get, especially from verses 4 - 17.  Use the definitions above to help you.

Abide in Jesus.
