Do You See?
The term "darkness" is used in the Bible to describe our lives without Jesus.
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
John 8:12 NLT
Jesus illuminates our lives giving us eternal life and the ability to see clearly. Below is a diagram I came up with when I was thinking about how the Light of Christ changes our lives.
LIGHT removes DARKNESS
love/laughter shame/guilt
Acceptance Unworthy
Jesus is the light and when He comes into our lives, we find ourselves loved and accepted. The beauty of God loving us is overwhelming and causes laughter to well up within us.
Many people stay in darkness because they do not consider themselves to be good enough for God to love. Shame and guilt are heavy burdens to carry. They weigh us down, hinder our growth, and prevent us from reaching out to Jesus.
When we drop the darkness we carry around and hold on to Jesus, the darkness flees because it cannot exist in the Light. Holding on to Jesus keeps His light in our lives.
The Light of Christ is a heavenly embrace that makes contact with every part of us - body, mind, and spirit.
The light of the [uncompromisingly] righteous [is within him -- it grows brighter and] rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked [furnishes only a derived, temporary light and] shall be put out shortly.
Prov. 13:9 Amplified
The light of Christ enhances our vision giving us clarity and purpose. With the light comes understanding and the ability to make good decisions (2 Tim. 1:7).
Without Jesus, we stumble around in darkness with no idea where we are going.
Here is a small and not inclusive list of what the Light does in our lives:
- shows us the way to go
- reveals truth
- exposes lies
- keeps us safe
- improves our ability to see whats in front of us so we don't trip and fall
The Light of Christ is a beam of hope that encourages us and others to lean on His strength instead of our own.
