A Generous Heart

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
                                                       Prov. 11:25 NLT

I love this verse!  It makes me smile.  It makes me want to give and it reminds me that I can never give more than God can supply.

This verse also reminds me of the words of Jesus in Mat. 6:26 when He tells us to look at the birds who do not worry about getting food but are always fed by God.

Nature is an outward reflection of the internal transformation that occurs within us.

Think of your life before Christ - rugged and chaotic with weeds growing wild.  The seasons would change around you and nothing else did.

Then Jesus comes into your life.  The weeds (like bad attitudes, selfishness, and unforgiveness) are pulled out.  The land is tilled by God's Word and seeds of love, hope, peace, and faith are planted.

Now as the seasons change, so does the land.  Instead of weeds there are flowers and fruit (like joy, strength, and wisdom).  Instead of chaos there is order and contentment.  What we planted brings a harvest that we cannot contain and it overflows our lives.  We have abundance.

The abundance of life given to us by God is not meant to stop with us.   We are called to be generous with all we have been given.   The Bible promises that the more we give the more we will receive (Luke 6:38).

We were made to come alongside each other and share what we have been given and what we have learned.  This is how the body of Christ is strengthened.  This is how we reach our full God-given potential.

A generous heart does not limit giving to material things only.
Reach out to others with a generous heart and God will replace what you give with interest.
