The Gift of Joy

Joy is another gift given to us by Christ.   In His final prayer to the Father in the upper room, Jesus says:

"...I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with My joy."
                                                               John 17:13 NLT

Jesus  is highlighting the power of what He has spoken.  He gave us so many valuable life producing words in His three year ministry on earth that a person could spend their entire lifetime studying just the four Gospels and never unearth all the treasures contained there in.

I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.
                                                                 John 15:11 Amplified

God gives everything without limits and joy is no exception.  The joy that comes to us from Jesus is so pure and so beautiful, it overwhelms our senses and leaves us breathless.

It is joy that makes your mouth shout with heart felt thanks to God for being so merciful.  It is joy that overflows the limits of our narrow perceptions and opens us up to be vessels of light and love to those along side us who need a helping hand.  It is joy that lifts us out of the clutches of depression and strengthens us to persevere in every situation.

Jesus is the only source of real joy.  He gave us His Word so we would always have access to His joy.  It is by receiving His Word into our hearts that we are filled with His joy.

Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty.
                                                                Psalm 32:2 NLT

Joy overtakes our hearts when we receive the mercy of God through Jesus Christ.  Confessing our sins and being honest with God opens the door for us to receive the fullness of Christ's joy in our lives here on earth.

Above all things, God wants us to willingly surrender our hearts fully and unconditionally to Him.  In that place of complete transparency and total dependence, we will always find true joy.

There is nothing in this world that comes close to producing the joy and delight that knowing and loving Jesus Christ does.
