The Gift of Peace

Everything we have and all that we do is a gift from God.  This can make it hard to really be amazed at His generosity.  It's hard enough to wrap our minds around how completely God loves and provides for us but when we break it down into individual gifts - it literally takes your breath away.

Today I want to look at the gift of peace that was  given to us by Jesus Himself.

I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don't be troubled or afraid.
                                                                 John 14:27 NLT

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples as He prepared to leave their physical presence.   They were meant to strengthen, comfort and encourage the disciples as they continued their lives on earth.

The peace of God is not a flimsy covering over your life.  It is a deep and powerful state of being that goes beyond our flesh and mind and actually dwells in our spirit.  Jesus has given us right now the peace that we will feel in His presence when we leave this world to live with Him for eternity.

We have the eternal peace of God here on this earth through Jesus Christ.  He has given us this gift of peace to help us throughout our life.

We are to be lead by that peace.  When we make decisions or plans of any kind it is imperative that we set the whole situation out before God so this peace can keep us right where He wants us to be.

Now look at the middle sentence.  "That the world cannot give."

There is nothing in this world that can give us the peace we hunger for.  This makes me shake my head to think about how much time I spent looking to other people, jobs, or possessions to give me that peace.  No wonder none of it satisfied me.

The gift of real peace only comes to us through Jesus.

When we receive Jesus Christ into our hearts and make Him the Lord of our lives, He brings with Him a gift of peace that the world does not understand.

Receive the gift.  Choose everyday to live in the perfect peace of God.
