One Rule

In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam and Eve only one rule.

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
                                                         Gen. 2:17 Amplified

Even with only one commandment to live by, man could not do it.  Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and were removed from the garden.

I find this oddly ironic.  We have hundreds of laws and rules in our world and yet so many of us cannot follow even the simplest ones.  People speed, steal, kill, seek revenge, and covet.  No longer is it "that bad" if you tell a "white lie" or leave part of the story out.  We've gotten so loose with the application of our rules in an effort to do what we want when we want.  Then we try to justify our behavior based on what everyone else is doing.

Isn't that what Adam did too?

Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent.  But both were guilty of sin.

Just as we are all guilty of sin.

Jesus is the only way our sin is removed.  Through Him, we are restored back to the place Adam and Eve were before they ate from the tree of the the knowledge of good and evil.  Through Jesus we are made right with God and can live in unbroken fellowship with Him.  In Jesus there is only one rule: Love.

For our understanding, it was separated into two categories.  Love God, love people (Mat. 22:37-40) but it is still one rule.

Love does no wrong to one's neighbor [it never hurts anybody].  Therefore, love meets all the requirements and is the fulfilling of the Law.
                                                             Rom. 13:10 Amplified

There it is, love is always the right response.

Love fulfills every requirement of God's law.

Love is the one rule to live by.

We can never go wrong when choose to love.
