Hide and Seek
I used to play hide and seek as a kid. We would play everyday on our summer breaks having fun and laughing. Did you play hide and seek too?
As adults, we may not run around and physically play the game any more but there are still many people who play hide and seek with God.
People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will find mercy.
Prov. 28:13 NLT
Trying to hide our sins is one of the most foolish and useless things we can do for God knows everything (John 21:17). He is always watching us, He is the Living One Who sees us (Gen. 16:13). We can hide nothing from God and yet we sometimes we put a lot of effort into trying to.
Look at Adam and Eve after they ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 3:1-13). As soon as they ate the fruit, they recognized that they had sinned and that they were naked. Up until that moment, Adam and Eve did not even know what "nakedness" was.
Immediately, their spiritual and physical nakedness became apparent to them. Spiritually, they were out from under the covering of God's authority and physically, they had no clothes.
It takes a lot of energy to hide our sins. The worry of keeping our sin hidden can consume us causing a great deal of stress. As long as we keep trying to cover up our mistakes, we remain spiritually naked.
Pride causes us to try and conceal or justify our own poor choices . It keeps us attached to and weighted down with sin and sin keeps us separated from God. The more we work to hide our sin the harder we have to work to keep it hidden. We will spend the rest of our lives trying to keep that sin out of sight.
Acknowledging our sin shines the light of Christ into our lives and allows His blood to wash it away making us clean and restoring us to right fellowship with God again.
God promises that if we humble ourselves and own up to what we have done, He will forgive us. The spiritual covering of God over our lives is restored the instant we ask to be forgiven and receive His mercy.
There is no limit to God's mercy for us (Psalm 86: 15 ).
Confess your sin today and receive the mercy and love of God. He forgives instantly, every time for all time.
