Living Wisely 2

Yesterday we talked about reading your Bible.  The Word of God feeds our spirits like food does our body.  We need it.  With that in mind I want talk some more about your Bible.

First I want to encourage you to find a Bible that you really love.  Now some may argue that this is foolish but let me explain.  I have four Bibles that I use in my pursuit of God and study of His Word.  All of them are loved, well-worn, and written in but the Message Bible is my favorite.

I love the way it feels in my hands, the way it moves.  I love the color and texture of the cover of it.

I love the way the wording helps me see more of God and how I can apply His Word to my life.

Sometimes, I think I can feel it's holiness!

I want you to have this same pleasure.  I want you to look forward to holding and reading your Bible.

In John 1:14 it says that Jesus is the Word made flesh so that means that when you spend time reading your Bible and thinking about what you are reading in it, you are really spending time with Jesus.  WOW!  You are hanging out with Jesus!

"If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God, "I'll get you out of any trouble.  I'll give you the best of care if you'll only get to know and trust Me."
                                                   Psalm. 91:14 Message

Notice here the promises attached to knowing and trusting God - He will defend you and provide for you.

Getting to know someone requires time and effort.  And to maintain a relationship you have to keep investing in it.  Your relationship with Jesus is no different.

Don't just think of reading your Bible as an obligation.  The honor and privilege of knowing God has been given to you through Jesus Christ.

Expect to hear from God when you spend time in His Word.

Open your Bible, read it and let God be a part of your life.
