Mercy and Grace

The Law of Moses was intended to show us that we cannot be good enough for eternal life.  Through the Law we can see how desperately we need help due to our weak and sinful nature.  God provided the solution in Jesus Christ.

Jesus came from God and yet He was fully God.  He lived on this earth within the limits of a man without sinning.  He became the spotless Lamb that is strong enough to remove all our sin so we would be acceptable to God.

...through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.  Everyone who believes in Him is declared right with God - something the law of Moses could never do.
                                                                Acts 13:38-39 NLT

Our sin keeps us away from God.  The only condition attached to receiving the forgiveness of God for our sin is to believe in Jesus Christ.   It is through our acceptance of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross that we are able to receive God's mercy and have all our sin removed.

Through Jesus the dirt and stains of our sins are washed away.  This is great news!  We no longer have to carry the baggage of guilt and shame because our sin can be seen no more in the eyes of God.  Our sin is gone.  We no longer need to walk around beating ourselves up when we fall short of God's standard.

I used to be pretty good at berating myself for several days (and even weeks) when I would say the wrong thing or lose my temper.  When we mess up and say or do the wrong thing the next step is to ask for forgiveness from the person involved and God.  Then leave the situation behind you.

In Romans 12:1 it says there is no condemnation when we ask for mercy.  So now the tough part of leaving things in the past has to be walked out.  Look at it this way, if God forgives and forgets your sin why should you continue to bring it up and carry it around?

Now is the time to put down any shame, regret, or self-loathing that you may be carrying.  You are forgiven by God through Jesus Christ.  Your sin no longer exists to God so stop keeping it alive in your heart and mind.  Refuse to listen to the thoughts of condemnation.  Remind yourself continuously that you are forgiven.

Decide today to leave your sin in the past.  Look to God for whatever you need and accept the mercy and grace He gives freely to all who believe.
