Telling the Truth

Acts chapter 5 begins with the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira.  They owned a piece of land, sold it, and gave some of the money to God.  What strikes me most about the story is that they lied and thought they could get away with it.  Here is Peter's response:

"The property was yours to sell or not to sell, as you wished.  And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away.  How could you do a thing like this?  You weren't lying to us but to God!"
                                                              Acts 5:4 NLT

Both Ananias and Sapphira instantly dropped dead when Peter confronts them about lying.

With such drastic consequences for lying, we do we still do it?  Why do we try so hard to keep things hidden?  The Bibles promises that everything we do in secret will be revealed.  Yes, we can fool some people, some of the time but we never fool God.

God knows every move we make but out of His great love for us, He gives us multiple opportunities to repent and turn back to Him.  David in the book of Psalms tells how unconfessed sin weighs us down and keeps us out of the covering of God's protection.  Paul talks about the unveiling of our secrets in the book of Romans.

...that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone's secret life.
                                                          Rom. 2:16 NLT

The consequences of sin are devastating but God will forgive you if you will humble yourself, confess your sin, and ask for His mercy (1 Peter 5:6).

Don't wait another minute.  Now is the time to be honest with God.
