Did I say that?

I knew a man who would pause for a few seconds before answering in a conversation just to make sure he checked his words first.  There is wisdom in doing this as the following verse from Proverbs points out.

Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.
                                   Prov. 21:23 NLT

How many times have you opened your mouth and said something you wish you could take back?  I have probably more than a thousand times in my life.  The words seem to flow out of my mouth like a raging river and my mind is always surprised by them.  I look around thinking "Where did they come from?"

Keeping your lips together can be very difficult.  It requires your brain to stop and filter what you are going to say before the words leave your mouth.  Not easy but it can be done.

Practice not sharing everything you know about someone.  Resist the urge to repeat gossip (0r better yet - don't listen to it in the first place).  Stop and think before you answer a question and above all filter your words.  Use Phil. 4:8 as the filter for what you say keeping things pure, true, noble, lovely, and admirable.

No matter how much you apologize, your words, once spoke, cannot be erased or taken back.

Trouble is unleashed when we let our lips do the talking.

Think before you speak.
