God has called and commissioned every person to love others. Love is the foundation and motivation for doing good in God's kingdom.
Guard My common good: Do what's right and do it in the right way.
Isa. 56:1 Message
You have been commissioned by God for a protection detail. He wants you to take care of His people by doing what is right by His standards, not the worlds.
To do good is simply to the right thing all the time with a joyful heart. Of course this is easier said than done. Our feelings, our thoughts, our perceptions and our judgments get in the way. This is why it is necessary for us to conform our minds and lives to the Word of God (Rom. 12:1-2) and pursue being like Christ.
Doing good is not based on your bank balance, the kind of clothes you wear, or the job you have. Doing good is a reflection of the love of God in your heart for people and can be as simple as holding a door for someone.
God is in the people business and there are thousands of "little" things we can do everyday to reach out and show we care. Simple things like manners and common courtesy go a long way. Saying please and thank you are great starting points. Smiling and being friendly is also a way to show you care.
The way we drive can also be part of doing good. Letting people in to traffic and giving others the right of way is part of doing good. So is using your turn signal and stopping for pedestrians.
God did not create us to compete with each other but to complement each other. Embrace the team mindset when working on a project with others. Recognize out loud the gifts and talents of others. Allow people to use their strengths when working toward common goals.
You don't have to have millions of dollars or a huge following of people in order to do good things. Look today for opportunities to help others in small ways and you will find your life will have a huge impact.
