No Substitute

         So be careful not to break the covenant the Lord your God has made with you.  Do not make idols of any shape or form, for the Lord your God has forbidden this.

There is something in our nature that yearns for God.  All to often we take that desire and try to fill it with something else, usually something we can see.  We are fooled into thinking we have to have something to look at or touch as a symbol for God.  We don't.

God's greatness cannot be fully revealed or displayed in one single object.  All of creation cannot demonstrate clearly for us just how magnificent He is and yet many of us focus on handmade things as symbols for Him. 

There is no substitute for God.   

The Bible warns us not to be deceived, God is a jealous God and He will not tolerate anything taking His place and this includes any type of symbol we make to reflect Him. 

      So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other.
                                   Deut. 4:39 NLT

Only our Creator - the Lord God Himself - can fully satisfy and complete the longing in our hearts.
