Behind You
Simon Peter meets Jesus in Luke Chapter 5. I've always loved this story because it reminds me that God does not see our circumstances the same way we do. The other day, though, I noticed Peter's response to the huge haul of fish.
Simon Peter when he saw it, fell to his knees before Jesus. "Master, leave. I'm a sinner and can't handle this holiness. Leave me to myself."
Luke 5:8 Message
His response to the holiness of Christ was to try and put distance between them. The fear of his past prevented him from drawing close to Jesus.
Jesus said to Simon, "There is nothing to fear."
Luke 5:10 Message
It is difficult to understand a love so pure and holy that it comes to and dwells with one who is filthy with sin but that is exactly what Jesus does.
We do not have to be afraid of our sin. Jesus is saying that we are wanted by and acceptable to God . Our past is not who we are, it is only where we have been.
Through the experiences our past we have hopefully learned many lessons. We were never meant to live there. We will still sin but it no longer has the power to keep us down. Jesus has given us victory over our sin and our past.
God is looking at our future. He is more concerned about our destination, not on our ability to be perfect.
Learn to leave your past behind you by keeping your heart set on the truth of God's great love for you.
Remind yourself that the perfect love of God casts out out all fear.
Live today with God first by letting go of your past and embracing all that God has given you.
