Caught in Adultery
God wants first place in our hearts. Let's face it, He is the only One truly worthy of that honor. People will hurt us and let us down. Things will break, rust, and fall apart. There is only One who will never decrease, never change, and that is the Lord.
....and their love of idols was adultery in the Lord's sight.
Psalm 106:39 NLT
When I read this verse I paused. It caught my attention because I did not realize how the Lord looks at the affections we live by. Adultery is a pretty strong word. I've seen it destroy marriages, homes, families, businesses, and friendships. It is hurtful to everyone in and around it.
When we love someone or something more than God, He considers that to be adultery. It will wreck havoc on our lives and our families not to mention our hearts. God is serious when He says "Love Me first with everything you are and everything you have."
There is no one that compares to God. He is pure and perfect in every way. His love for us is the real deal and it will never fade away or decrease. He alone is worthy of having first place in our hearts and lives.
Spend some time this weekend looking at the priorities your life is lived around. Is God at the top of the list? Is He even on the list? Do you do things simply because God loves you and you love Him? Is your list full of things that bring you peace? Does anything on it benefit others? Is there any quiet time set aside for just you and God?
God never intended life to be full of chaotic activity or striving and unrest. Spring is a great time to make changes and learn new habits. Weed out of your life anything that is truly unnecessary or unproductive. Make decisions and arrange your life in a way that allows you to enjoy this adventure of life you are on with God.
A God centered life is full and active but it's energy and ability comes from knowing God and paying attention to what He says.
Choose to live God first everyday.
