One Who Serves

Today I'm talking about two chapters in the Bible, Luke 22 and John 13.

...For I am among you as One Who serves.
                               Luke 22:27 NLT

The story of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples is well known as our example of serving others.  Today as I read this story in both the book of Luke and the book of John I noticed something I had not thought about before.

Jesus knew this was His last day on earth as a man.  It was His last meal with His disciples.  He also knew that Judas Iscariot was going to betray Him. Yet even with this knowledge, He chose to spend His last evening washing the feet of His twelve disciples.

Think about this, on His last day on earth, Jesus washed the feet of the man who would hand Him over to the people who wanted to crucify Him.  I don't think I could do it...I'd like to think I would but I just don't know.

The implication of this train of thought is that we no longer have a reason to withhold service to anyone who has hurt or offended us.  I'm thinking, Jesus has removed any excuse we can come up with to get out of giving assistance to anyone in need.

We are called to imitated the One Who serves, Jesus Christ.  There is no valid reason for us to let even one opportunity go by without doing something for someone.
