Perspective

Next week I am going to start a series on spiritual blessings from the Book of Ephesians.  Today I want to do some ground work for us to build on and give you a chance to get prepared as well.

Spiritual blessing are gifts to us from God.  These gifts come to us through Jesus Christ.  From the moment we accept Jesus and what He did on our behalf, all of these blessings become ours.  Say this with me:

"I am blessed."

Say it again.  And again.  And again.  In fact, why don't you just keep saying it all weekend.  As you do this, I want you to keep the following in mind.

God's generosity is not based or limited or influenced by your behavior, ability, or social status.  God gives to you because He wants to.  He has always wanted to (since before He made the world) and will continue to do so for all eternity.  God wants you to have all the blessings of heaven right here, right now, on earth.  That's what He wants and He has given you everything you need to be able to do it.  The rest is up to you.

Your part in this is to accept and receive everything God has given you by faith.  Here's an example: I have been dealing with some out of control emotional swings - up, down, hot, cold, sad, depressed, happy, etc.  I am usually not like this so the whole thing is frustrating to me (and all the people around me).  I have literally had to sit down with my Bible and my journal and look up, write down, say (say again) and think about God's promise of peace (Matt. 11:28-30).  It was in that moment God showed me that my perspective was off kilter.

The point is to think of God's promise as bigger and stronger than anything you are dealing with.  When I put my emotions next to God's promise of rest, God's promise wins.  It's like the trump card in card games.  Nothing else can be it.  There is no higher anything.  I had to change my perspective.

In order to live out God's promises, we must really believe that His word is an absolute.  It cannot be changed or removed from us unless we reject it.  So, let go of your human perspective of life and open yourself up to God's perspective.  Choose to live open to God.

Read Ephesians 1:3-11 throughout the weekend and think about what it says.

You are blessed!
