To Do or Not To Do
Merely hearing God's law is a waste of your time if you don't do what He commands. Doing not hearing is what makes a difference with God.
Rom. 2:13 Message
This is not saying that we earn anything from God because of what we do. But it is saying is that what we do with our lives is important. Remember the story of the talents? The man who hid what he was given out of fear lost it all because he did not do anything with it.
We are responsible for changing the way we live. With the help of God we are to conform our lives to His word. This process is similar to doing a spring cleaning in your house. You sort through stuff keeping only what your need and what still works. You get rid of all the old things that you don't use or that are broken. You wipe down and clean out the closets and cupboards, organizing everything. Once done, things seem new and fresh and you feel like you have more space for living in.
Doing the same thing in our lives can be difficult as we let go of old thought patterns and behaviors that do not match up with the way God wants us live. But the result of making these changes allow us to experience the freedom of Christ thereby giving us room to grow and develop new godly habits. This is how we "do the Word." We live it.
Romans 12:2 reminds us not to let the world tell us how we should live but to look instead to the word of God. Examine your heart and look at your life. Are you living God's way or the worlds?
Committing to live a God first life is useless without also changing the way we live to reflect His standards.
