Useless Things
We all have dreams, things we want to do and accomplish. Some of us will live our dreams and some won't. The difference between the two groups is that those who reach their goals have made sacrifices along the way. Those who don't have refused to give up the things that are holding them back.
It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.
Prov. 13:19 NLT
In general, we humans are a funny lot. We get into our routines and get comfortable with the status quo, all the while carrying our dreams around in our hearts wishing for the "if only" to happen and make them a reality. However, the delay may not be in what you are waiting for to happen but what you are trying to take with you.
Sacrifice is necessary for change to happen. And in order to bring about change the old stuff has to be removed so the new can come in. Sounds simple enough but in practice it's not so easy. How do you know what needs to go and what needs to stay?
Paul and Barnabas went to Lystra and while there, they healed a crippled man. The people, thinking they were Gods began to gather an offering to sacrifice to them but when Paul and Barnabas realized what they were doing they spoke firmly to the people.
...turn from useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,
Acts 14:15 NKJ
Turn away from the dead end path and choose instead to follow the living God who loves you and has great things planned for you.
Let's face it, in all honesty, we know what needs to change and what is holding us back. We cling to these "old" things out of comfort and habit. But if we really want our life to change, if we really want to live God's plan for us, then we are going to have to separate ourselves from anything and anyone that causes harm instead of growth.
Turn away from useless things.
In the pursuit of dreams, the sacrifice of everything that hinders our progress is required.
