Remind Yourself
We know that God is great and that nothing can defeat Him. So if we know God is bigger and stronger than anyone or anything - why do we let fear hold us back or keep us down?
I praise God for what He has promised. I trust God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
Psalm 56:4 NLT
Our battle with fear originates in our mind. If left unchecked, it can cause paralysis keeping us from becoming mature followers of Christ and inhibiting our ability to reach out and help others.
Many people can quote the word of God (and that is great) but when we stop at that and fail to apply it to our lives and actually live it, we remain immune to the power of God that lives in it.
Living the word of God when it comes to fear can seem impossible. The Bible does not promise that we won't face fear only that when we do face it, God is strong enough to help us get beyond it. Sounds easy enough, right?
The problem is, fear is not a one time battle. Fearful thoughts will keep popping up in your mind, over and over again. The key to victory is to not allow yourself to dwell on them and to remind yourself of who God is and what He can do.
Faith is the opposite of fear and it is our faith (or trust) in God that gives us the ability to overcome the limits set by by fear.
When you notice thoughts of fear, stop them immediately. Remind yourself of what God has promised you. Remember all the times that He has helped you out before. Remember that God is bigger and stronger than anything. He is with you and He has fully equipped you for every situation.
Our ability to serve God is limited when we allow fear to hold us back.
A God first life refuses to give in to fear.
