Knowing God
The more we study love, the more we will know God. All to often, people think of love (and therefore God) based on what they have experienced at the hands of other people.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; loves does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
1 Cor. 13:4-8 NKJ
Paul's definition of love here perfectly describes Jesus. This is how He looks at and responds to us.
Jesus is very patient with us as we work through issues and gain understanding of living a godly life in this world. He never uses shame or ridicule to teach us anything.
Several things can hinder our ability to understand what love really is. One is when we set our standard of what love is on another person instead of Jesus. Trying to make ourselves appear to be something we are not, is another one. When we let our past stop us from receiving the love of God, is another.
Love is tirelessly patient. No matter how many times we ask the same question, God replies like it's the first time. He never gets frustrated or irritated with us.
God lets us grow at our own pace. It doesn't matter how long it takes for us to learn something, God waits for us. He does not push us around or bully us. He lets us choose what we want to believe. He helps us as much as we allow Him to.
These are just a few ideas about how God loves us. I encourage you to spend some time today thinking of the specific things He has done in your life that demonstrate His love for you.
God loves you...a whole lot.
