Who's Point of View?

When I was reading from the book of Matthew, I saw another aspect of love in the words of Jesus.  Peter had rebuked Jesus for saying He was going to die in Jerusalem and Jesus responded with this comment:

...You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's.
                              Matt. 16:23 NLT

A human point of view is limited to what we think we know and want.  It can cripple us by creating walls and barriers that prevent us from giving and receiving love.  This kind of approach in life is grounded in pride and driven by self interest.  Love cannot grow in a closed up life of restrictions like this.

Living based solely on our own perspective stops us from living in response to God.  Opportunities are missed and people are excluded giving the impression that we think more highly of ourselves than we do of others.

While we may think we have all the answers, the truth is that we don't.  God is the only One who knows everything.  He sees the big picture, He knows all the details and He wants us to trust in Him by not living in the confines of our own point of view.

God has called all of us to live beyond ourselves.  Through Christ, we have been given the freedom of living in the open expanse of love.

Love's perspective in life is based on doing what's right and is always looking for ways to help and encourage people.  Love does not tolerate the injustice of prejudice caused by narrow-minded thinking.

Pray with me.

Father God,
I come to You in the name of Jesus.  Help me to see what You see and to hear what You hear so that I can be Your light in this world.  Give me wisdom so I can respond to others they way You respond to me.  Thank you for the privilege of serving You.
Amen

Live today looking at things from God's point of view.

  1. you make a really strong point with this: "God has called all of us to live beyond ourselves" through Christ—in us and through us.

Amen, to live beyond self, and to love beyond self:

So he answered and said, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'"(Luke 10:27 NKJ)
