The Real Deal

We have talked all week about how much God loves us.  Today we are going to switch gears and talk about how His love is not meant to be kept in us but is to pour out of us.

Love means doing what God has commanded us, and He has commanded us to love one another,  just as you heard from the beginning.
                              2 John 1:6 NLT

God's love for us is so great that we cannot contain it in any way.   In fact, it is so great that even if we wanted to, we can not keep it to ourselves.  The extravagance of being loved by God is so overwhelming that we will find every way we can to share it with everyone we meet.

When the Bible calls God's love a consuming fire that is exactly what it is.  It consumes our heart and mind and changes us from the inside out so that we cannot stop reaching out to hurting people.

In a world that has lost the concept of what pure love is, it can be difficult to demonstrate real love but God's word tells us how to do it.  Read 1 Cor. 13:4-8 a few times and you will come up with several ways it can be done.

Another good starting place is this verse from Romans.

Don't just pretend to love others.  Really love them.  Hate what is wrong.  Hold tightly to what is good.  Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
                              Romans 12:9-10 NLT

God's love flowing through us does not expect anything in return.

Love freely expecting nothing in return except the joy of doing what pleases God most.
