Thoughts and Words

We have talked this week about how our thoughts can affect and change our lives.  Our thoughts influence our actions and can either draw people to us or repel them from us.

God has given us the ability to take our thoughts captive (Rom. 12:2) through His Word which is alive and powerful (Heb. 4:12) and through His Holy Spirit who lives in us.

Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the anitchrist], because He who is in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
                              1 John 4:4 Amplified

God's spirit in you is very powerful.  In fact, it is so powerful that it has already declared your victory over every thing that tries to stop you from becoming all that God has planned for you.  What this really means is that you CAN control what you think because God is in you.

In preparing for this post, it became very clear that in addition to being purposeful with our thoughts, we will have to keep watch over our words.

I used to have diarrhea of the mouth.  To cover my insecurities, I would talk (a lot) expressing my opinions and trying to appear smart.  At the time, I thought I was showing my intelligence but the truth is, I was revealing my foolishness and causing people to avoid me.  I was not a genuine person because my internal me did not match my external me.

Our words reveal what is truly in our hearts.  What we believe is made known by the words we speak.

Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, I have believed, and therefore have I spoken.  We too believe, and therefore we speak.
                              2 Cor. 4:13 Amplified

The Bible warns us that the tongue is an out of control fire that no man can tame (James 3:8) but we have also been given the promise from God that with Him (His help) we can do anything (Phil. 4:13).

Your thoughts and your words work together to bring about change in your life.  If they do not match up then you will continue down the same path you are already on but if your words and thoughts are in agreement, watch out - your life will never be the same.

The full and mighty power of God is unleashed in your life when your thoughts and your words are in agreement with His word.
