Blind Man Walking
God never wanted blind obedience. Think about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They lived with God. They were friends with God. They made the choice (no matter what the reason) to disobey. Their choice created the struggle that all of us face.
Do we know and trust God enough to obey Him?
The greatest commandment we have been given is to love God. We were created to love God with all that we are and all that we have. He wants to be our greatest love, the one we put first in all things. But how can we love someone we don't know?
This question haunts my heart. It was in response to it that I started studying the Bible over ten years ago.
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
John 1:1 Amplified
Jesus is the Word of God personified in a human body. If we want to know God, the only way is through Jesus (John 14:6). To know Jesus is to know the Word and the Word is your Bible.
Like I said yesterday, I want to live my everyday life with Christ. I want Him included in everything I do, everywhere I go, and everything I say. I set my heart on knowing God and in order to know Him, I make sure I set apart some time everyday to read my Bible.
Some days it may only be a few minutes and some days it is several hours. The point is that I need Jesus and in order to live with Him I have to make the effort to seek Him out and ask for His help in all things.
Over the years I have learned who God is. I have discovered treasures in His Word that have spoke to my heart, transformed my life, given me strength to endure heartbreak, given me wisdom to make good decisions, and given me courage to step out in faith. I have learned that God is trustworthy.
Everything that God does for us is for our benefit but we cannot learn this through blind obedience. It can only be discovered and received through an active and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
We'll talk more about this tomorrow. Spend some time today reading your Bible and thinking about what you read.
You are in my prayers.
