Making Time
For you died to this life and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col. 3:3 NLT
When we became followers of Jesus Christ, we asked Him to be the Lord of our lives. We exchanged our sin stained lives for the perfect life of Christ and acknowledged our need for His help and wisdom. But for many of us, although we meant every word we said, the desire to let Him lead is forgotten as we get tangled up again in our wants and desires.
Selfishness creeps back in as we think about giving up the things that have become comfortable in our lives. We try to rationalize how we can hold on to our old way of living while trying to figure out how to live for God in such a corrupt world.
Our emotions can cause unhealthy attachments to all kinds of destructive things. Jesus helps us to recognize what those things are but because God gave us free will, He will not force us to change.
How we choose to spend our time is a direct reflection of what we value most.
This is why I spend time with God every morning. I need His help to get through each and every day. I cannot do what I do without His help and wisdom.
Finding time to spend with God can be a huge challenge. It will require an honest appraisal of your life so that whatever is not essential can be removed to make time for Him. I have always considered my time with God to be as necessary as the food I eat. The food nourishes my body and the time with God nourishes my spirit.
The amount of time that you spend with God is not important. Consistent purposeful pursuit of God is what deepens your relationship with Him. The Bible promises that when we honestly and diligently seek Him, we will find Him.
Make time for God - today and everyday.
