Open Your Heart
I was talking with a co-worker last week who made the comment that people often delay or miss out all together on something they wanted because they were too busy focusing on the closed door in front of them instead of finding and going through the open door to the side of it.
Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively.
2 Cor. 6:13 Message
This verse in the Amplified Bible says to "open up your hearts." A life open to God enjoys the similarities and differences between people, places, and things without negativity.
Since September, God has been opening doors and expanding my life in very personal ways. He gave me the opportunity to go to St. Louis to the Joyce Meyer Women's Conference. Through this trip, I was introduced to a group of women trying to navigate life and take care of their families in a godly way and with God's help. I was comfortable with them from the beginning (which is a new experience for me) and we are forming strong bonds as we continue to meet each week to pray for and encourage each other.
God has been teaching me about the tremendous power of love and how it can change every situation. Just by loving on purpose, my attitudes and thoughts about specific people has changed and I have found a very profound sense of peace and contentedness.
Last week I became involved with another group of women who at first seemed very different from the other group and yet they are not really all that different. They are also trying to find their way in life with God.
What is so awesome about all this change in my life, is that it started with me turning to and going through the open door instead of standing in front of the closed door feeling sorry for myself and complaining about not getting any breaks in life.
Growing up I did not have a lot practice developing social skills. My few encounters with other girls left me hurt, lonely, and insecure. Even when my own daughters were growing up, I had no experiences to draw on to help them navigate the tangled web of teenage friendships.
But God...(big sigh and huge smile)...but God is able to turn life around. He can change things and give us the secret desires of our heart but we have to turn away from the closed doors and find the one that is open just for us.
We will continue to talk about openness this week and maybe into next, I don't know yet how far this will go but as we start I want to ask you to spend a few quiet minutes with God and ask Him to reveal the closed doors you are still standing in front of so you can go instead to the one He has opened for you.
Point your life in the direction of God's open door.
