What You Believe

I was listening to the Bible last week and heard this verse:

If the way you live isn't consistent with what you believe, then it's wrong.
                              Rom. 14:23 Message

What we believe is reflected in our life through the choices we make and the way we behave.  In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul, is teaching about living according to what we believe.

The word "believe" translated from the Greek text means:
      -to have faith in
      -to trust
      -to be fully convinced
      -to rely on

There is an understanding that it also includes submission to and confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  To be a "believer" implies a personal trust in Jesus that produces obedience.

Being a believer in Jesus is personal.   A believer is not just someone who knows who Jesus is but someone who has invested their heart in knowing Him.

Our belief in Jesus Christ is held and guarded in our hearts and it feeds and fuels our relationship with Him.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
                              Rom. 10:10 NKJ

Our heart is where we hold on to what we really believe.  This is why we are told in Prov. 4:23 to guard it.  Our heart influences every choice we make and is the compass of our life.  It determines the direction we travel in as well as our destination.

Personal trust in Jesus Christ requires a heart commitment for it is based on an intimate relationship with Him.

When your heart is committed to Jesus, your life will reflect Him.
