The Closed Door
We started off yesterday talking about openness. Living open to God includes exploring new opportunities and doing things you may not have done before. Sadly, many people do not take these chances and therefore they miss out on living full and productive lives.
Today I want to look at what happens when we come across a closed door.
"I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you have obeyed My word and did not deny Me."
Rev. 3:8 NLT
God opens doors of opportunities for us that no human being can shut just as He closes doors that we cannot open. When we encounter doors in life, we must be very careful to make sure that our motives are right and that our next step is based on God's plan for us and not our own affections.
Standing in front of a door that God has closed will get you no where. In fact, it can be very detrimental. It keeps us from growing and without growth we cannot fulfill our purpose. Our ability to see and understand things is impaired because staying in front of the closed door blocks our view.
Many people quit trying when they come across a closed door instead of seeing it as a form of protection from something that is harmful or that they are not ready for.
Focusing on the door that has been closed cripples us. It prevents us from seeing anything beyond our own little world. When our attention becomes so wrapped up in us, we cannot see what is going on around us and then we never see the door that has been opened for us. A self focus life is a little life because it only involves one person, "me."
A person who keeps looking at the closed door will soon begin to complain and we all know that complaining will not solve a problem. Complaining is actually sin in the eyes of God. Remember that the Israelites who complained in the wilderness did not enter the promised land. Complaining is also a sign that we think we know better than God.
People who remain in front of closed doors will become bitter if they do not turn back to God.
Instead of staying focused on the door that has been shut, turn and look for the door God has opened for you. Don't give up and don't stay in that place. Keep moving and trust God by relying on His guidance as to what your next step should be.
Closed doors are actually opportunities to see and experience new things but only if you look up and find the open door.
