Forward Progress

Change is what takes us from our old way of life into a new way of life with God.  It is also what keep us growing and maturing throughout our lifetime.

In a world of instant gratification and quick fixes, people expect change to occur around them before it takes place within them.  God's way is the exact opposite of this.  He wants us to start by changing internally first and then the external part of our life will change.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
                              Phil. 1:6 NLT

A godly life is developed within us before we are able to demonstrate the changes through actions.  Many people resist change because it does require effort but forward progress is only made when we keep trying.

When I first came to Jesus, my thoughts were selfish and my heart was greedy and jealous.  Over the last 10 years, God has patiently taught me how to live beyond myself and in the process, He has given me all the desires of my heart.  He will do the same for you, if you don't quit.

God works with us by giving us wisdom, creativity, and strength so that we will be successful in our endeavors to successfully change.  It is His power within us that makes change possible.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
                              Eph. 3:20 NLT

God's power within us enables us to actually change the way we think about things.  What we think influences the life we live because our thoughts form our attitudes and they both affect our actions.  God works with us to overcome negative thinking so our lives will change.

Thoughts and attitudes require time to change.

Making forward progress is done one step at a time and one day at a time.  Don't get discouraged when you mess up.  God does not demand perfection.  He is not concerned with how well we do things as much as He is that we keep trying.

The Bible reminds us repeatedly to "practice" living by God's standards and not the world's because God knows that we will make mistakes.  What we continue to practice will eventually become second nature.

Do what you can and leave the rest to God.
