Give Accordingly
I can't believe Thanksgiving is already here! The time sure does move fast these days. With all the rush and fuss of the holidays, I want to remind you (and myself) to give generously within your means.
If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD -- and He will repay you!
Prov. 19:17 NLT
Long ago, I was the poor single momma trying to make ends meet. One year my daughter's name ended up on the Angel tree in our town. I will never forget how overwhelmed I was at the huge pile of gifts both her and I were given.
Now that I have the ability to give, I try not to miss a change at helping others out.
I recently received an email about small things that can make great gifts while also helping our local economy. Here's a few of the suggestions:
-- get gift cards from local businesses for oil changes, car washes, house cleaning, or meals out.
-- buy gifts from the local shops in your community.
-- look for opportunities to pay for some one's lunch or coffee.
-- buy all the fixings for a meal (or two) and give it to someone in need.
Something else I do is collect my change in a small change purse for the sole purpose of having something to give to the people on the street corner or the Salvation Army Santa at the entrances of businesses.
If you are not in a position where you can buy things for people then look to the things you can do like help clean up the leaves in some one's yard or offer free babysitting for a single momma.
This is not a competition in any way. God does not ask us to all give and do the same amount. We are only asked to do what we can.
All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God.
Deut. 16:17 NLT
We are to give in proportion to what we have been given. Don't discount yourself or your gift. God takes whatever you give and uses it in great ways.
Do what you can with a grateful heart.
