Greater Understanding

And I will bring the blind by a way they know not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known.  I will make darkness into light before them and make uneven places into a plain.  These things I have determined to do [for them]; and I will not leave them forsaken.
                              Isa. 42:16 Amplified

God helps us to grow closer to Him and become more like Christ by opening our eyes so we can see what we haven't seen before.

He has determined - made the decision ahead of time - to help us on our life journey.  God increases our understanding on a daily basis by helping us to see more clearly all the ways we can apply the truth of His word to our daily lives.

This week, I am learning that first impressions are not always correct.  When I jump to conclusions about some one or something without taking the time to step back and look at the whole picture, I am usually wrong.

We all know that outer appearances can be deceiving and what is on the outside is not always what is on the inside.

Hurting people hurt people.  Insecure people put others down in an effort to build themselves up.  These are just a couple of examples of how the outward behavior can hide brokenness inside.

When we judge people without gaining a better understanding of what is really going on, we miss out on an opportunity to help them grow past what is holding them back.  Demonstrating the love and compassion of Christ, especially to those who have hurt us, will always triumph over evil.

In a culture where ridiculing people is considered entertainment, it is hard to step back and take the time to get to know people better.  I believe God wants us to it anyways.

Part of living an open life includes accepting people just as they are, the same way you want to be accepted.

We gain greater understanding when we take the time to look below the surface.
