Looking Back
We cannot start the change process without first looking at where we are and how we got here. Honestly acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses is vital to our success no matter what you are looking at changing. The problem is that most of us do not make it past this step because we get stuck looking behind us.
Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old.
Isa. 43:18 Amplified
We cannot move forward or make progress if we are always looking back at where we've been. Yes, it is good to remember the lessons we have learned and the things God has done for us but staying focused on our mistakes prevents us from taking the step in front of us.
Things change in life. There are seasons and times for every purpose under heaven. No matter what season you are in, don't stop moving forward. Keep your eyes and heart set on Jesus and He will show you what to do.
I don't know about you, but when I came to Jesus, my life was a mess. My thoughts were constantly condemning me for the bad choices I had made and my mouth was constantly complaining. People did not like to be around me because I was needy and depressing.
Jesus accepted me mess and all but His love for me was too great to let me continue to live that way. As I learned about godly living and making good choices, Jesus worked with me to change me and my life.
In the beginning, it was hard not to look back at the mess my life had been. It seemed easier to stay in my mess then it was to change and I was still dealing with the consequences of some of my bad choices. But as time went on, I started making more good choices. My life began to change and somewhere along the way it became more comfortable to pursue godly living than it was to go back to my old way of life.
Stop living life looking back at your past.
Turn your eyes forward and watch where you are going.
