Being A Receiver

The other day I talked about asking for help.  As I was posting the entry it occurred to me that receiving is just as important as giving.

Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
                              1 Tim. 4:4 NLT

Many of the people I've talked to (including myself) have a hard time receiving.  For most of us it is because we get embarrassed.  We give with joy  but we resist God when we don't also receive from others with the same attitude.

The Bible tells us to count all things with joy (James 1:2) and even though it is talking about going through tough times, the message applies to receiving all that God has prepared for us.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be baptized by him.  But John protested strenuously, having in mind to prevent Him, saying, It is I who have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?  But Jesus replied to him, "Permit it just now; for this is the fitting way for [both of us] to fulfill all righteousness [that is, to perform completely whatever is right].  Then he permitted Him.
                              Mat. 3:13-15 Amplified

John was refusing to baptize Jesus because of what he thought in his own mind.  Jesus gently reminds him that by baptizing Him, they were both doing the will of God.

The old saying of "it is more blessed to give than receive" is wrong.

We cannot share the love of Christ without first receiving it ourselves.

We cannot encourage others without first going through stuff ourselves.

We cannot give to the needy without having first received the money or the items ourselves.

I'm sure you could continue this list but you get the point.  In order to be a giver, we have to be receivers.

Life is made up of many seasons, some of abundance and some of drought.  Through it all, with joy we are to give and receive according to God's plan and not our own opinions.  In every season we can experience joy by simply following Jesus.

Learn to receive with joy and you will experience the peace of God in every season.
