Daily Bread
The last few weeks have been extremely busy for me both at work and at home. My 'to do list' keeps being pushed back to tomorrow and is not getting done. Then as if that is not enough, I throw in some complaining!
Did you notice that God was not involved in any of that stuff? I let my guard down and let things and people take first place in my heart. God reminded me this morning to turn back to Him with this verse.
...They have exchanged the glory of God for the shame of idols.
Hos. 4:7 NLT
An idol is anything we trust or value more than God and glory is His provision in meeting our needs and helping us get things done.
I have been letting the cares of this world affect my time with God. I have held on to my worries about what I need to get done and instead of getting God in the mix, I have been trying to take care of things my self.
When I read this verse from Hosea I knew immediately that I had taken the glory of God out of my life by not asking for His help and instead took on the shame that comes from complaining.
It is hard to not let our day to day concerns consume us and there is nothing wrong with being busy but if we don't include God in what we are doing, then we miss out on part of His plan for us.
Jesus said our prayers should sound like this (Mat. 6:9-13 Amplified):
Our Father Who is in heaven,
Hallowed by Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven
(left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and
have given up resentment against) our debtors.
And lead (bring) us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
It is only when we rely on God for our daily needs that we find ourselves living in His glory.
