I AM the Light of the World
I find it interesting that the second "I AM" statement of Christ Jesus comes right after He refuses to condemn the adulteress woman who was brought to Him for judgment (John 3-11).
Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, "I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life."
John 8:12 Amplified
Sin keeps us in darkness because it keeps us apart from God. Jesus came to remove our sins and therefore allows the Light of Life from God into our lives on earth as well as for all eternity.
The darkness of a sin filled life dose not allow for growth because it keeps us in one place, too afraid to move and do something different. Just as plants need light in order to grow and bear fruit and be healthy, we too need the Light of Christ.
The promise of living in the Light is open to who so ever will believe. Again, as it was in yesterdays post ("I AM the Bread of Life") all we have to do to receive this Light is believe.
When we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and choose to trust in His ability to forgive our sins and connect us to God so we can have all of the spiritual blessings promised to us in God's word (Eph. 1:3) then we have the Light of Christ within us.
Some of the benefits of having this eternal Light in our lives includes but is not limited to the following:
- the continual presence of God.
- the forgiveness of all of our sins.
- the removal of condemnation.
- the wisdom to make good choices.
- the strength to grow beyond our past and into our future.
- the understanding needed to guide us to our destiny.
With the Light of Christ, we can see our world from God's perspective rather than our own. This improvement to our vision prevents us from stumbling over obstacles on our way and helps us to stay on the right path for us.
One other thing about the Light I want to mention, is that it shines through us. The Light of Christ within us shines like a lighthouse to the people around us beckoning them to safety.
Know today that the Light of Christ shines from within you, helping you to navigate through the darkness of this world by removing all of your sins and enabling you to clearly see who you are, where you are going, and what to avoid.
Let your Light shine!
