The Law
When Jesus is teaching the people in Matthew Chapter 5, He explains that every requirement of the Law must be kept. Not even one part of the Law can be broken for absolute perfection was the requirement.
Through His teaching on the Law, Jesus was showing us that we cannot possible keep every letter of the Law and that is why He came to earth. He fulfilled every detail of the Law for us.
Do not think that I have come to do away with or undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to complete and fulfill them.
Mat. 5:17 Amplified
Because no human being can ever reach the perfection demanded by the Law, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to do it for us. This is why our sins are no longer accounted to us.
Jesus paid the debt of our sin long before we were ever born so we could live not only right with God but in the freedom of a loving relationship with Him. Through Jesus, our relationship with God can be more than a casual acquaintance. God has made us His children and the Church is the Bride of Christ.
God is showing us that even in our imperfect state, He wants to be the desire of our hearts just as we are to His. Yes, that's right, you are the desire of God's heart but sin prevents you from being close to God without the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Being intimate with God sounds a little odd but God is Love (1 John 4:8). Remember our description of Love in the 300th Post? That is how God loves us. His love for us is so great and so pure that He could not bear to be separated from us any longer. He had to help us do what we could not do for ourselves and now through Jesus Christ we have been given the greatest gift of all - salvation which is total freedom from the Law.
God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Eph. 2:18 NLT
Through salvation, we have met every requirement of the Law and can now enjoy the presence of God.
