Words To Live By

Jesus had been fasting for 40 days and was hungry when the devil came to challenge Him.  The first temptation used was the turning of rocks into loaves of bread.

But He replied, "It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
                              Mat. 4:4 Amplified

God wants us to live by His word, that is why He gave it to us.  We cannot know Jesus without knowing the Word because He is the Word (of God) made into fleshly form (John 1:14).  The answer in every situation and for every problem or issue can be found in your Bible.

The Bible reveals God's love and devotion to you.  It is the wisdom of God in written form and is intended to help you live in this world free from the world's standards.  The only way to know the Word is to read it and ask God to help you understand and apply it to your life.

I want to share with you how I have used the Word to overcome the baggage from my past and learned to trust God.  I have used this technique to face every every kind of issue that has come up in my life.  It is not easy and it does not change anything overnight.  But through diligence and patience, God has set me free and shown me how to live securely in His arms with peace and contentment.

I must preface this with the fact that I believe God's word is infallible and that by speaking it out loud, I put angels in motion and keep the devil under my feet.  I also believe that every word in scripture comes from the mouth of God and is intended to help me live on earth (2 Tim. 3:16).

I write down and carry with me 3 x 5 cards with different verses of scripture that relate to an issue I may be facing or an area that I want to change or learn more about.  I use the cards so that I can carry them around with me and read them throughout the day.

I read these cards first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed.  I say them out loud and I talk to God about them.  I ask Him to help me understand them and to show my how to apply the truth of His word to my life.

My desk at work is covered with note cards that I have written different verses of scripture down on, so that I never have it far from my sight.  I carry them in my purse and I have them throughout my home.

In addition to this, I also spend a few minutes sitting quietly with God just listening for Him.  He always answers my questions and patiently teaches me.  It may not be at that moment but something will happen or be said and I will know without a doubt that it is God's reply to me.

I have done this for years with both little things and big things.  This habit of mine has helped me learn how to enjoy my life and live contentedly in the arms of God free from the baggage of my past.

Try it for yourself.  Look up and write down a couple of promises from God's word that relate to an issue or topic you are wanting to know more about or are struggling with.  There are over 7000 promises in the Bible so I am sure you will find verses that relate to your situation or need.  Carry your cards with you.  Read them through out your day silently and out loud.  Ask for God's help.  Learn for yourself how much God wants to be involved in every area of your life.

My Pastor said something at service a few weeks ago that I want to leave you with:

"My future is as bright as the promises of God."

Live by the Word of God.
