Merciful to Me
I have been thinking about the last post all day. The theme of mercy has resonated in my heart. As I thought about being merciful towards others I was reminded that other people are not the only ones who need mercy... I do to.
Jesus has been merciful to me.
Jesus has removed my many faults, sins, and weaknesses. He understands the longings of my heart that I cannot put into words. He also knows that as critical as I have been towards other people in the past, I have been even harder on myself.
Jesus is merciful to me.
As I pondered the idea of being merciful to me, I was reminded of the woman caught in adultery and Jesus' response to her after all her accusers had left.
She answered, "No one, Lord!" And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more."
John 8:11 Amplified
Jesus does not condemn us when we sin. Because He is love, He overlooks it. Because He gave His life to pay the debt of our sin, He does not recognize it.
If Jesus cannot see what I've done when I ask for forgiveness, then why should I carry it with me?
So there is my challenge for the day. Be merciful to others yes, but more importantly, don't forget to be merciful to me.
