A New Year, A New Day

Today is the first day of 2012.  It's a time that most of us use to identify needed changes, set goals, and make plans.  If you find looking at the big picture a bit overwhelming, may I suggest breaking it down into smaller, more easily digested pieces?

It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.
                              Lam. 3:22-23 Amplified

Everyday God supplies what we need.  Every morning, His mercy comes to us through Jesus Christ.  It removes our sins from yesterday so we can start today fresh and burden free.

We cannot change the past by fretting over it so don't use today to regret yesterday.  Now is the time to take the wisdom gained in previous days and put it to good use.  Make good choices today.  Spend your time wisely; for time once spent cannot be returned.

It takes thousands of training steps to complete a marathon.  So don't expect to reach all your goals in one day, one week or one month.  Focus on one thing at a time.  Take life one step, one day, at a time.  Do what you can with today and do your best at it.

As a runner, I have to remind myself that I cannot have my "best run" everyday.  Some days I run slower than others for a variety of reasons.  I cannot let myself get discouraged just because I did not run as well today as I did yesterday.  Instead, I let each run be the best I can do on that day.

It is the attitude of doing the best you can right now that will eventually bring you to the successful completion of your goals.

Live today to the best of your ability and let God help you do more than you think you can.

Embrace the new beginning God gives us each day.
