Not Human Love
God is all mercy and grace - not quick to anger, is rich in love.
Psalm 145:8 Message
God's love for His people is nothing like the love humans have for one another.
I am overwhelmed this morning by the greatness of God's love and I don't just mean that it cannot be measured. Whenever we go to God, it does not matter what the situation is, His only response is love.
Love does not mean always getting what we want or that we can do what we want. And it certainly does not protect us from experiencing heart ache and grief.
What the love of God does guarantee is that when trouble comes, He will hold us and protect us. God will give us the wisdom and strength to go through. He will not leave our side or change His mind.
When we mess up and act the fool, God will not criticize us but He will allow us to learn from our mistakes. God is with us when we react poorly to people and His love is strong enough to help us make peace afterwards.
God's love prevents Him from getting offended when we come to Him in anger. We can freely share our thoughts and feelings with Him without any threat of retribution - even if it is He we are angry with.
God will not give away our secrets or treat us like failures - ever. His love is so pure that it can withstand our venting without being tainted by our selfishness or wrong thinking. When we run out of steam, He will be there ready to help us work through our struggles with patience and understanding.
When I first meditated on the verse above a few years ago, I came up with a life statement to remind me of how much I need the love of God. I hope that what ever you are going through today, it will help you too.
