The Way He Treats Us
The Pharisees were constantly watching and scrutinizing everything that Jesus and His disciples did. In Matthew 12:1 we find the disciples picking spikes of grain and eating them. The Pharisees saw them and had a fit.
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "See there! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful and not permitted on the Sabbath."
Matt. 12:2 Amplified
If I'm reading this correctly, the disciples were with Jesus and He knew that they were eating the grain and that it was the Sabbath but it did not bother Him at all. The Pharisees on the other hand were very upset because laws of their religion were being broken.
I have a confession to make. I used to be a Pharisee.
I was very much a "rule follower" and I would look down on those who did not (just like the Pharisees here). I kept most of my life within some very rigid lines until Jesus taught me that when I put my trust completely in Him instead of my ability to follow rules that I didn't need the "rules" because my heart, in response to His great love for me, would lead me on His path for me.
People tend to look at and criticize each other in order to justify themselves. The Bible warns us not to point the finger of blame at one another because that only brings more attention to our own bad behavior.
...Every time you criticize someone, you condemn yourself. It takes one to know one. Judgmental criticism of others is a well-known way of escaping detection in your own crimes and misdemeanors.
Rom. 2:1 The Message
None of us are perfect and that is why we need Jesus. Instead of focusing on what someone "does wrong" let's treat each other with the mercy that God has given us.
It is when we receive His mercy for our own shortcomings that we are able to give it to others.
Today let's treat others the way He treats us.
