In Charge
For many years I thought that being a servant of God was based solely on what I do and how big of an impact it had. I felt that in order to be a "good" servant, I had to do 'big, impressive' things. But I was wrong.
Big events and outreaches are great, don't get me wrong. But it is the faithful daily walk we have with Jesus that makes the most impact and has the most value.
Who then is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his house to give to the others the food and supplies at the proper time?
Matt. 24:47 Amplified
According to this verse we have been put in charge of a portion of God's house - that portion is our life. You are in charge of your life. Every day you get to make decisions and choices that help you grow as well as impact the lives of others.
We can choose to be critical complainers or solution seekers. We can be generous with what we have or we can be greedy and try to keep everything to ourselves. The type of servant described in this verse as thoughtful, faithful, and wise is the one who shares with others.
Over ten years ago I had to file bankruptcy. I was left with no possessions of any value but I did have my two daughters, a job, and a car that barely ran. I wanted desperately to be a big giver but really had nothing to give. So I gave the only thing I had - time and I served in my church as much as I could.
Now, I am able to give time and resources to my church and other charities. I am blessed and I share what I have been blessed with by choice. I refuse to stop giving because it brings me great joy. You also have the ability to give something....your time, your tallent, your expertise, or your money. You choose what you give.
God is not impressed like people are by fancy performances and big numbers. What He does delight in is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise person who uses what they have to help those in need around them.
A servant's heart does not grieve over what it cannot do but rejoices over what it can do.
Use what you have to do what you can.
