Long Haul
In the 20 years since I met Jesus, He has patiently helped me learn who I am and taught me at my pace. He never demanded that I do more than I was ready for. Instead of giving me a quick fix or a massive overview of all the issues of my life that needed to be dealt with, Jesus has lived and worked with me.
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.
Matt. 11:28-30 Message
I love this passage of scripture because it reminds us that Jesus wants to be involved with our daily life. He cares about each one of us individually. There are no limits on how much or how long He will help us.
The comittment we find in theses verses reveal to us the depth of God's love for us. We are never alone, never unwanted, never forgotten. God's love for us is manifested in the life and death of Jesus Christ Who came to this earth to remove anything and everything that would keep us apart from God.
While we read of many instant healings of both the body and the spirit in the Bible, I have found that Jesus works over time in my life, not because He cannot or does not want to make the change but because there are lessons I need to learn for myself along the way.
Some issues have been too big for me to even look at by myself let alone try to tackle them. But Jesus knew the best way for me to take from the beginning so He lead me one step at a time. As I faced my poor choices, addictions, and hurts, I learned more about me (and God's love for me) than I would have if I had not worked on things a little at a time.
Lean and rely on Jesus to help you everyday of your life. Don't rush through the process growth. The goal is not to finish first but to finish well.
Jesus is in our lives for the long haul. To Him, the journey is just as important as the end result.
