A Servant Life

In the world today, success is defined or based on how high up the corporate ladder a person can climb or how much stuff they possess. But in God's kingdom the greatest people are those who serve.

There are times when I think I say we need to help others too much.  But then I look at Jesus and how He lived and I don't think I say it enough.

Just as the Son of Man came not to be waited on but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [the price paid to set them free].
                              Matt. 20:28 Amplified

Jesus came to serve people.  Jesus was always looking out for the needs of the people around Him and He asks us to serve each other with the same heart and attitude that He does.

The concept of serving one another has been devalued in our world.  Throughout history servants have been looked down upon, belittled or thought of as second-class citizens.  Even today if you look at the people who work in the service industry, they are often ignored and paid little. Our society emphasizes the 'better jobs' of management over being the worker.

To be a servant of others, is not about power and it does not involve hierarchy. The foundation of being a servant is built on a genuine love and respect for every person as an individual creation of God.

There is a song by Matthew West that talks about our own little world with the population of me.  Jesus has never wanted us to hoard what He gives us.  We are vessels that He uses to show others who He is.

Like I said yesterday, as we live each day WITH Jesus and imitate the way He took care of people, He reveals love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, kindness, and self control (Gal. 5:22) through us.

Practice being a servant everyday.
